The mission of the Water Operation/Maintenance Department is to provide potable water to the citizens of Mexia.

This year, the department is funded for 11 full-time employees, including a construction crew for the replacement of water and sewer lines throughout the City of Mexia.  The Public Works Director, Fred Samford, is salaries; the others are hourly.  Funds are budgeted for training and the employees of the Water Department are encouraged to take the necessary training to obtain State licenses from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Responsibilities of this department include water system planning and construction, water line repair and replacement, fire hydrant installation and repair, monitoring the water storage facilities, and new service installations.
