The City Manager, Larry Brown, is the Chief Administrative Officer of the City, and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the City Council.  The City Manager is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the City Council’s policies and is also responsible for the efficient operation of all governmental operations and activities.

This Department has 2 employees.  The City Manager is responsible for Personnel, Public Relations, Citizen’s Advocacy, Inter-Governmental Relations, Planning, Economic Development, Grants, Purchasing, Budget, and Special Projects.  The sale of properties for the City’s “Urban Redevelopment Program” are negotiated and coordinated by the City Manager.

The Executive Assistant to the City Manager is responsible for personnel records, policy and procedure manuals, applicant screening, workers’ compensation claims, injury reports, job description development, and benefits programs.

Funded from this Department is the salary for the City Manager and the hourly wages for the Executive Assistant, their benefits, the Manager’s auto allowance, and travel and training.  The advertisements for and physical examinations of prospective employees are also funded here.

City of Mexia Rental Features

The CIty of Mexia has rental facilities available to citizens who live within the city and pay a city water bill. Those facilities can rented through the Executive Assistant for the City Manager, Room 4, 101 S. McKinney Street, Mexia, TX . Phone: 254-562-4110.

Civic Center

Auditorium available for rent only. Balcony is not available for rent at this time.

 Girl Scout House

Two bathrooms, two small rooms, kitchen with stove and refrigerator. This is an old building, only has one air-conditioner, and it is recommended that those renting the facility bring fans if they need additional cooling. Although it is not a new, modern facility, it is frequently used and well worth the rental price. Four tables and chairs are also included in the rental price.

The Girl Scout House is located in the City Park which has a curfew of 10:00 PM.

 Pavillion

Pavillion in the park can be rented at no cost to the citizens of the City of Mexia who pay a water bill. Although there is no charge for rental, you must obtain a letter from the Executive Assistant to the City Manager. This letter will give you access to the Pavillion without a problem. Many times reunion groups rent the Girl Scout House in conjunction with the Pavillion. The older folks stay stay cooler in the Girl Scout House while the younger folks stay play cards, eat, and visit under the Pavillion. Pavillion has lights for night time usage.

The Girl Scout House and Pavillion are located in the City Park which has a curfew of 10:00 PM. GSH and Pavillion must abide by that curfew.  

Swimming Pool

Open Tuesday-Sunday 11am to 7pm. Closed Mondays. General Admission is $4.00 per person.

Season Passes: $100 for individual; $250 for family of four and $50.00 for each additional family member.

SWIMMING PARTIES - 2,3, or 4 hour rentals. No parties on July 4th!! Rental hours are 8pm to 10pm, 8pm to 11pm, or 8pm to 12pm.

0-49 people for 2 hours = $115         3 hours = $165        4 hours = $215

50-74 people for 2 hours = $130       3 hours = $190       4 hours = $245

75 & over for 2 hours = $150             3 hours = $215       4 hours = $280

 Notice of Adopted 2009 Tax Rate

CITY OF MEXIA ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE.

THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 8.06 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $70.50.
